Editorial featuring Acnes and Candy magazines collaboration, ironically called Blue!
Acnes collaboration with Candy magazine created in 2010 a line based on the western shirt, consisting of three denim shirts with both masculine and feminine detailing in crepe velvet and denim and targeted against transvestites and the trans-sexual community. The ads created for this collaboration really represents the concept of androgyny.
Acne is a Swedish denim label that's an acronym for "Ambition to Create Novel Expressions". Candy Magazine is the world's first transversal style publication headed by Luis Venegas. Together, they've designed a capsule collection, based on the classic Western shirt, of three androgynous shirts available in two different fabrics and washes.
Of the project, Acne's creative director Jonny Johansson said, "Luis's energy really reminds me of the energy we had when we started Acne. We share openness to new ideas and expressions, so to work with him felt natural from the start. This collection is a playful collaboration and a celebration of diversity. It touches on ideas I have always played with when designing for Acne, the tension between male and female and what happens when you shift things around a bit. This project has been so much fun."
The collection's a massive step forward from casting for androgynous campaigns - it's deliberately designing and marketing for a minority clientele! Baby steps to support a one-love fashion industry!
